I sit typing the first Newsletter of the “Summer” season, the rain is hammering
against the window, yet I see that our dedicated members are booking Tee Times,
that is what I call commitment!! Our
Membership Secretary informs me that we have welcomed 19 new Adult Members and
10 Junior & Youth Members since we opened the club in late May. I am indebted to the efforts of the many
Volunteers who have given so much of their free time to making the course such
a pleasure to play on, they are too many to mention individually, but I am sure
that you will be aware of them as you enjoy your game. I would like to welcome
2 new members to the Management Committee, Billy McLeod has taken on the task
of Handicap Secretary and Joe Jolly has taken over as Match Secretary. They will both be a great asset to the
management of the Club.
Lammie has done great work in improving the drainage on the course, especially
on Holes 4,5, & 7. I have been in
touch with Network Rail to clear the Culverts under the railway. They inform me that any obstructions are now
cleared. However, despite these efforts,
there are still “boggy” areas especially at the beginning of Hole 7. I will
keep a close eye on this area of concern.
improving the Greens continues and you will notice that areas have been sanded
& seeded. I am sure that these efforts will bear fruit in the coming months.
The Tees have also received a lot of attention in the last month. I know that
some of you like short grass on the Tees & some of you prefer a slightly
higher cut. We can’t please everyone, but I hope the result is at least
acceptable to the majority.
We have been
busy applying for funding support with some success. Ayrshire Golf Association
have refunded all our current years Subscriptions and Scottish Golf 25% of our
Subscriptions. We initially received a grant as part of the Covid-19 Small
Business Support Grant and now further funding under the Covid-19 Fixed Cost
Grant from Scottish Golf which will pay for the new Grass Collector.
Competition Tees Off this Sunday 5th with a large field of
competitors already registered to play.
Of course, Covid-19 Rules have required the Club to modify the Rules of Play,
but I am sure everyone will enjoy the day (If the rain holds off). The Match Secretary is busy revising the Diary
of competitions and hopes to be able to incorporate matches to meet all levels
of Handicap and ages. We hope to be in a position to publish the Diary very
are to hold an Open Day for the local community to try their hand at the great
game and invite local Female Groups to swing a club in the hope of increasing
our female membership. To facilitate this and to allow visitors who do not have
clubs, members have generously donated 7 adult sets with bags, and we have also
purchased 6 Junior Sets for use by school groups. While Covid-19 is still upon us sanitisation
of loaned/hired golf sets will be strictly implemented.
relaxing of lockdown restrictions by the Scottish Government the toilets in the
Clubhouse will be available for use from Sunday 5th, again strict sanitisation procedures
will be in place. We will also have a
selection of soft drinks for take-away sale, place your order with the Starter.
